GREAT FALLS, MT (September 19, 2007) — The Great Falls Explorers have announced their first new player signing of the off-season. Najeeb Echols, a 6’7” forward who played his college basketball at the University of Missouri and Illinois State, has signed a contract to join the Explorers in their sophomore season.
Echols joins the Explorers after playing last season overseas where he averaged double figures in points and rebounds. In college, Najeeb was known for his defensive abilities as he was named the Defensive Player of the Year while at Illinois State. On a more personal note, Najeeb’s mother was an original member of the band Earth, Wind, and Fire.
“Najeeb is a great player with great character,” commented General Manager Ryan Acra, “he can play 3 positions on offense and can guard anyone on the defensive end.”
“His strength and athleticism will bring a lot to our team, not only during games but at practice as well,” added Head Coach Scott Wedman.
The Explorers also have contracts out to a number of players from last year’s team that finished the organizations first season with a record of 24-24.
The Explorers will begin their second season on November 16 on the road against the defending CBA Champion Yakama Sun Kings. The first home game will be on December 4 at the Four Seasons Arena. Season tickets and mini-packs are available at the Explorers office.
